The Bedford Teachers’ Association works on behalf of students and education both in our local community as well as in New York State to improve public education and to protect the rights of members to practice their profession. Politics impacts every school district and the working conditions of every school employee, because laws and regulations affecting every member's terms and conditions of employment are passed by lawmakers and implemented by government agencies in Albany and Washington, D.C. We did not become educators to get involved in politics, but today’s climate in our community, state and country mandate it. One of the ways that you can help is simply by staying informed. Our BTA Political Action Report is written monthly by Mimi Warren. Here are this year’s reports:

The Contact your Elected Officials page at NYSUT.org is your opportunity to join thousands of grassroots activists who are using the Web to contact their elected officials at the state and federal levels on the important legislative issues of the day. It's fast, it's convenient - and it's free. Go to the following link:

and then follow these five simple steps:

1. Select up to 3 letters to fax from the listings of letters for state officials, federal representatives and the governor.

(Your currently selected faxes will appear in the right column. You may add and remove letters at any time.)

2. Click "Send Faxes." (You'll have a chance to preview before they're officially delivered.)

3. Determine your elected officials by zip code or by district.

4. Enter your personal information.

5. Click "Send Faxes."

Facebook is an additional means of communication for the Bedford Teachers’ Association. We have established a group on Facebook specifically for conversation regarding union issues. We encourage all of our members to join and be part of the conversation.
